This is a new, genuine replacement part from Whirlpool. The thermostat ensures that the dryer's heating element turns off if the internal temperature hits 250 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature falls to 210 degrees Fahrenheit, the heating element will turn back on, providing a 40-degree differential.
