Dishwasher Sump and Motor Assembly
The Sump and Motor Assembly is responsible for directing water from the sump area to the spray arms in your dishwasher. This assembly includes the circulation pump, impeller, motor, and the complete sump, which comprises the pump housing, water filters, chopper blade assembly, water collection chambers, and sensor housings.
Located at the bottom of the dishwasher tub, this assembly can be replaced as a whole or by individual parts, depending on your needs. Replacing the entire assembly is often more convenient.
Whirlpool manufactures this part, and it is compatible with various brands such as Whirlpool, Amana, KitchenAid, Maytag, Jenn-Air, Magic Chef, Roper, and Admiral. Whirlpool also produces parts for Sears-Kenmore and Ikea dishwashers.
To replace the sump and motor assembly, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the power and water supply.
2. Remove the screws securing the lower access panel.
3. Disconnect the water supply line from the inlet valve.
4. Remove the mounting screws from the junction box cover and note the wire orientation.
5. Remove the bracket screws and disconnect the drain hose.
6. Open the dishwasher door and remove the mounting screws.
7. Pull the dishwasher away from the cabinet and disconnect the hinge ropes.
8. Remove the screws securing the upper door panel.
9. Tilt the dishwasher back and detach the fill hose from its clip.
10. Uninstall the sump and motor assembly, then align the new pump with the seal and sump.
This genuine replacement part is sold individually and ensures compatibility with various brands, including Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Sears/Kenmore.
