Refrigerator/Freezer Dust Cap

If your refrigerator is making noise, consider checking the dust cap on the evaporator fan motor. This part is an OEM replacement for models from GE, including Hotpoint, General Electric, and Sears-Kenmore. The dust cap protects the fan motor bearing and housing from dirt and debris. A damaged dust cap can cause the fan to produce loud squealing sounds. If not replaced, it may lead to fan failure and impact the refrigerator's cooling performance.

To replace the dust cap, first disconnect the refrigerator's power and water supply. Clear the freezer of food to access the back panel. Remove the ice maker and set it aside. Disconnect and remove the fan to expose its shaft and the dust cover. Pry off the old dust cover and install the new one. Reassemble the fan and cover, reconnect the wires, and reinstall the ice maker. Return the food to the freezer and reconnect the power and water.

The dust cap is a white plastic part, sold individually, and designed for use in refrigerators from General Electric, Hotpoint, and Kenmore.
